About Mawi

MAWI is a British jewellery and accessories brand led by Creative Director Mawi Keivom and Managing Director Tim Awan.

The namesake of the brand, Mawi, was born in Manipur, North East India to diplomat parents. A creatively rich upbringing and a globetrotting childhood inspired her iconic, distinctly eclectic style and eventually led her to study Fashion Design at the Auckland Institute of Technology in New Zealand.

It all began with a charm necklace – a customised piece to which Mawi added her own charms and vintage baubles. This original piece that went on to inspire her first collection was an instant hit garnering over one hundred stockists at her debut show and led to the successful launch of the MAWI brand at London Fashion Week in 2003. Fashion editors, buyers and stylists alike fell head over heels for the designer’s innovative blend of what was then described as punk junk – a juxtaposition of cutting-edge fashion with old-school glamour, fusing traditional and tribal undertones with a rebellious edge.

Since this very first collection almost two decades ago, MAWI has secured a position at the forefront of accessories design and acquired a substantial collection of prestigious awards. The British Fashion Council first presented MAWI with the much-acclaimed New Generation Award, which the brand received for three consecutive seasons; the highest accolade for a breakthrough designer.

The brand also went on to win Female Owned Business of the Year from the Department of Trade and Industry, Mayor of Hackney’s Best Product Design Award in 2009, was selected as British Luxury Brands of Tomorrow by the Walpole Society in 2010, and made the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 list in 2012.

Over the years MAWI has also collaborated with some of the world’s most iconic brands including Disney Couture, Atelier Swarovski, Swarovski Crystallised, Hugo Boss, Bruno Magli, Selfridges, and high street giants Top Shop and Asos. The brand has also joined forces with some of the most creatively dynamic designers, commissioning pieces for Gaurav Gupta, David Koma, Linda Farrow, Katie Eary, Mark Fast and Temperley London.

Each MAWI creation provides an ornamental meeting place for the past, present and future, enduring the test of time long after seasonal whims have diminished. Every collection adds to an established repertoire of timeless, eternally coveted pieces; celebrating traditions, combining the contemporary and classic and always remaining true to a strong vision.

Currently MAWI is engaged in Design Consultancy and Collaborations for fashion and lifestyle brands offering their design expertise and industry experience spanning over twenty years.
